Bareback exercises and tips
Hi!
You can really do everything bareback that you would do with a saddle😃 Simply riding straight ahead in walk bareback is a very useful balance exercise. Bear in mind that not every horse enjoys being ridden bareback. They vary in how sensitive they are to having our seat bones directly on the back with no saddle in between to spread the pressure.
A few tips:
🐴Try lifting one knee at a time, out and away from the back, so that you release the contact with the horse's side with one leg.
🐴Sit without gripping with your legs. Imagine you should be able to land on your feet if someone whipped the horse out from under you.
🐴Ride serpentines in the arena around cones, or around trees, rocks or anything else when you are out and about. Start in walk.
Do ride with company if you are not used to riding bareback. It is fairly easy to slide off😄
