Finding the tread in the stirrup
Any tips for finding the tread in the stirrup?
Answers from HayHay's experts
You often lose the stirrup because you grip with your legs and never let the weight of the leg drop into the stirrup. If you can work on your seat on the lunge, or you have a reliable horse, try lifting your legs up in front of the saddle. This makes it impossible to grip with the legs. As you bring one leg down at a time again, wait a while before you pick the stirrup back up. This exercise helps the brain break the old pattern. If you keep slipping into gripping with your legs, it is worth starting your schooling sessions by lifting the legs up like this 😊
