Disunited canter when jumping - how can I fix it while riding?
Hi!
I understand how tricky it is when the horse becomes disunited. It is harder for the horse to turn and stay balanced when disunited, and some horses do not know how to resolve it other than by running faster.
The best way to deal with the situation is to slow down and pick up a new canter.
To stop her becoming disunited in the first place, you would need to ask your riding instructor what happens as she falls into the disunited canter. Sometimes it is because we riders are getting in the horse's way, sometimes it is down to something else.
Has the horse been checked by a vet recently? Sometimes it comes down to the horse being sore or tense, or the tack not fitting properly. If I were you, I would ask your instructor what they think the problem might be. Perhaps the horse is not ready to jump a full course yet?
Good luck! 🦄
