Jumping with Icelandic horses

Can you jump with Icelandic horses? I'm going to try out an Icelandic horse and I like jumping, but can I jump with an Icelandic and maybe do a pay and jump, or are pay and jumps only for "normal" horses?
Answers from HayHay's experts

You can absolutely jump an Icelandic horse. I know several people who have them, and they ride lower-level competitions and jump fences up to a metre with good technique. It is true, though, that Icelandics do not have quite the same natural genetic advantages as many other breeds. This is especially true of five-gaited horses, which are born with a lot of drive from behind because they can move in flying pace.
