Building muscle on a horse
Has anyone got tips on exercises to build muscle on a horse?
Answers from HayHay's experts
As a rule, build the horse up in walk: long reining, climbing work, and walking over cavaletti all work well. Raised cavaletti at varying heights and spacings are especially good, as they strengthen the core and improve coordination 🌟 Hacking out through the woods over logs and rough ground, or walking up and down hills (extra slowly on the way down), is also very effective. Canter strike-offs build muscle too. Ask for a strike-off, canter a few strides, then bring the horse back to walk and ask for another. They work best from walk. Good luck!
