Tips for rising trot

Any tips for when I'm doing rising trot? When I rise I end up standing up too much, and sometimes I thump back down into the saddle. Have you got any tips?
Answers from HayHay's experts

Practise your rising trot in walk so you can find your balance. Keep your foot directly under your hip, and make the movement slow and controlled. Once you have learnt the movement in walk, it is easier to get it right as the tempo picks up. If you thump back down into the saddle after rising, it is usually because your feet have ended up in front of or behind your hip. Most commonly the feet end up in front of the hip, in what is called a chair seat 😊
