Sitting to the trot - balance and following the movement

I need help with my seat for sitting trot! I find it hard to sit so it looks nice without my elbows and bum bouncing. It's hardest when we're about to strike off into canter and have to sit before that, because then the horse wants to run off!
Answers from HayHay's experts

First of all, sitting to the trot with good balance and a following seat is hard and takes time to build up. If you bounce a lot, it is common to grip on with your legs to hold your balance. That also tends to make the horse want to shoot forward, since you are driving it on by doing so.

Work on finding your balance centrally over the horse without having to grip on with your legs. Think long, relaxed legs 🌸
