Still lower legs over a fence?

My horse easily overreacts to the leg, which has led to me not letting my leg rest against him. So I think that's why my lower legs swing back so much when we're jumping. Anyone got tips on how I can keep my lower leg still over a fence?
Answers from HayHay's experts

The key to a still lower leg over a fence is good balance of your own and a self-supporting seat. In other words, you should never use the horse to balance yourself. Practise standing in your stirrups and balancing without gripping with your legs or holding your balance through the reins. This is something you need to work on over time, and every day, to get really good at it. 🙂
