How do I get the sheath to drop on my share horse?
I tried to oil and wash my share horse's sheath today, but I don't really know how to get at it when it's tucked up and hidden away. How do I get the horse to drop the sheath? It felt a bit awkward to ask anyone at the yard, so I'm hoping someone here can help, so it's easier next time 😅

Hello!
Some horses will let the sheath down if you:
- Rinse under the belly and the inside of the hind legs with body-temperature water (do not aim the water straight into the sheath)
- Massage around the sheath
- Sometimes it is enough for them to relax a little while you scratch and brush the rest of the body
Other horses are not so easy. In that case you will need to call the vet out to give a sedative. It is worth asking the vet to check the sheath while they are doing other work anyway, such as a dental check.
I hope it sorts itself out!
