Time management: how do you combine work and a horse?

I'm thinking about getting a horse in the future but I'm a bit anxious about how I'll manage both a job and a horse. I know lots of people who have a horse and manage a job at the same time, but I don't know how you do it, do you follow some sort of schedule? 🥺 Please share what your everyday looks like!

Hello!

That is a sensible question. It is a good idea to think through your life, and whether you have the time and money for a horse, before you actually get one 😊👍

🐴 My horse routines over my life with horses have looked very different.

The set-up has depended on things like how my school or work was timetabled, life before and after I had children, various injuries to me and to the horses, and not least the routines and agreements at the yards where I kept them.

🐴 As a rough guide, the time at the yard to muck out, look after and train a horse comes to around three hours a day. Then, as I say, it depends on your everyday life and the yard routines as to when those hours fall. If you can afford and arrange to buy in services at the yard, get help from a sharer, or team up with friends at the yard, you can bring the daily time down and perhaps not need to go to the yard every day.

🦄 That said, if your horse gets injured or something else happens, you always have to be ready to go to it every single day.

I hope that answers your questions! 😃
