Finding friends in the horse world as a 20-something

Those of you aged 20-25, how do you avoid feeling lonely? I have spent nearly my whole life alone with horses. Never had anyone to ride with, always had to train on my own unless my partner is there, and it generally makes me sad. I have one friend I can message about horses, that's it. And it leaves you feeling pretty lonely. What do you do? Where do you turn to stop feeling so lonely at the yard in general?

Hi!

What an important question 🥰 It is not always easy to find your people, and I really do understand how sad and dispiriting it feels.

I am admittedly a little older than 20-25, but I hope I can offer some support and tips that might work.

🐴 If you have your own horse, could you move them to a slightly bigger yard where there are more people to get to know?

🐴 Have you tried going on a course or a riding camp, either with your own horse or a borrowed one? You can meet like-minded people there and get the chance to know one another while you spend whole days together. That tends to build a really lovely sense of belonging quickly.

🐴 Getting involved with a riding club or riding school can be a good idea too, whether as a steward at competitions, on the committee or helping younger riders. It is a great way to meet new people.

I hope some of this helps you, and I wish you the very best of luck 🐴🤗🦄
