Hard to get a horse out of the field after a move

A horse I look after has just moved yard, and she seems pretty anxious. I understand this is completely normal with a change of environment, but I want to do everything I can to help her feel safe and secure. She's very happy in the field with her herd, hence the problem. She refuses to go into the stable and it can take up to an hour before I manage to get her in. I need tips on methods to get her to come forward more easily, I've already tried small circles and praise at the slightest little step. But it feels more like she doesn't quite feel completely safe and dares to trust me as her herd leader, so I'd really love any tips on exercises that strengthen the bond between horse and human :)

Hi!

I understand it is tricky, and it sounds like you have made a good start with praise and small steps at a time.

🐴 I would recommend bringing her in alongside one of the other horses. She will probably feel safer that way, and you can work on improving your relationship.

🐴 You cannot train a frightened or stressed horse very well, so you first need to give her the chance to settle into the new yard and its routines quietly and in her own time. That is best done in the company of other calm horses.

🐴 Bear in mind too that a horse that is chewing is calmer than one that is not. Try getting her ready in the stable while she has a little hay to eat. That creates a calm setting, and you can both get used to the new situation.

Good luck! πŸ¦„
