How often should I hose the horse off?

As a general rule, you should not wash a horse unnecessarily. Using shampoo and products on them dries the skin out. I tend to wash mine once a year or so, properly before a competition, or if a horse has managed to roll thoroughly in wee or poo. In summer I rinse them off with water after sweaty schooling sessions.

Horses with sweet itch can benefit from being washed with a sweet itch shampoo though, especially in the mane and tail 🌸
