Whether to move yards

Hello! I have a dilemma. I want to start training and competing more seriously so I can develop in the sport, but I live quite far away. That means I can only train the odd time each month, and getting to any competitions is really difficult to organise. I am not that happy at the yard either, and I have a feeling my horse is not either. So I have started thinking about moving. But at the same time it feels hard, because I am actually happy where I live, and all my friends are nearby. If I move I will not have that anymore. What do you think, how should I weigh it up?
Answers from HayHay's experts

Hello! It is understandable that you feel torn. Sometimes different needs collide and the choice is not obvious. A good way to start sorting your thoughts is to write a list of pros and cons. Seeing them in front of you may make it clearer which way things are leaning.

Do talk it through with family and friends. Another perspective can sometimes help you see things in a new light. If you start to consider changing yards, think about which area would suit you, and look into what yards are there and what they offer.

It is fine for change to feel difficult, but sometimes change is exactly what you need in order to grow and feel better. Good luck with it all!
