My first dressage competition

I'm doing my first proper dressage competition this Sunday and I'd love some tips! I've only been out to pay and rides before and now I'm going to do a regional dressage competition. I'll be riding LB1 (a Swedish dressage level) on a category C pony, and there aren't loads entered. Grateful for any help! 🙏

How exciting, your first dressage competition! Before the day, think about what matters most to you on competition day, for example the feeling you want to take home with you, such as a good partnership with your horse.

  • Think about how you are going to reach that feeling. For example, through what you focus on during your warm-up (exercises that feel safe and give you a sense of working well together)
  • Think about how you can carry that feeling into the test itself, for example by riding your entry in a way your horse recognises, so that you start the test on a good note
  • Think too about how you can hold on to that feeling after the test, whether you jog off or walk your horse afterwards

Good luck! 💫
