How do I rebuild the relationship with my horse again?
Hello!
🐴 If you are seeing a very clear change in your relationship and in the horse's behaviour, I would recommend having him checked over by a vet to rule out pain.
🐴 Check that all the tack and equipment is properly fitted.
🐴 Get help from a good trainer who can work with you both from the ground.
🐴 Do things together that feel easy. If walks are difficult because he bites, leave them for now and give some thought to why he bites. Have you done any reward-based training? It is important to be careful about how you give a reward, so that you do not accidentally reward pushy, begging behaviour, and about how the two of you are positioned in relation to each other when you give it. Perhaps offer less tasty treats?
You can read more here about how to do reward-based training and how to find a trainer near you: https://bhis.se
🐴 Bear in mind that everything we do with horses trains them. Bringing them in and out of the stable or field, grooming, picking out hooves, loading, riding, tacking up, feeding times, every situation where we interact with horses has an effect on them and, sometimes without realising it, trains the horse's expectations of what is about to happen along with its responses.
🐴Make a point of being present with your horse when you are together. Avoid distractions such as your phone, other people or whatever else is on your mind. The horse can tell when we zone out, and the connection can then weaken.
Good luck!🦄
