What does sawing a horse in the mouth mean?
What does sawing mean? Loads of people say sort of that sawing is bad, what do you actually do when you saw and why?
Answers from HayHay's experts
It means working the right and left reins alternately with backward-acting rein aids. Riders often do this because they want the horse to lower its head or flex at the poll. This is completely the wrong approach for the horse. It does not produce a correct outline, because the horse is forced to escape the bit in this way, and it also hurts the horse in the mouth.
