Quarter clips or toe clip - shoeing

I have a new horse from Ireland. She's due to be shod soon and I'm worried we'll do something that ends up bad for the horse. She's gone with quarter clips behind with her previous owner and the owner before that too (during this year). My farrier shoes with a toe clip and I'm wondering whether it matters if we go with that for her as well. I'm scared she'll be affected badly, because I read a bit quickly but it left me a little worried. And then I'm also wondering why you have it? Is it better?

Hi!

How exciting, a new horse😃🐴

It is great that you are thinking about how to help your new horse in the best way. "No foot, no horse" is an old saying that holds very true🥰

🥕If you use a trained farrier who is registered and approved, you should be able to trust that he or she can look at the horse and the feet and judge what is needed. It does sound a little odd if your farrier always shoes with a toe clip, because different horses can need different shoes on their feet. There is no single type of shoe that suits every horse or is always right.

🥕It can also take a long time, and quite a few shoeings, to put right feet that for some reason have not been looked after well or have been damaged.

🥕I think you should be there when your farrier comes to shoe your horse. Ask what they think and what the horse looks to need.

Good luck, and do ask more, and let me know how it goes🦄😊
