Training to become a beridare

Do you study to become a professional rider after upper secondary school or during it? If you study afterwards, which upper secondary programme should you have done?
Answers from HayHay's experts

Hello!

There are several routes into working as a professional rider. If you want to make sure you have solid training behind you, here is one path you might take. (These are Swedish qualifications and institutions, so the route will differ for UK readers.)

🐴 Upper secondary school: choose an agricultural college with an equine specialism. There are various schools and specialisms, and the course should finish with a horse care qualification (hästskötarexamen).

🐴 After upper secondary school: apply to the beridare programme at Flyinge, for example. You can read more there about the entry requirements and how to apply. You will need to sit an entrance test and show documented experience with horses and riding:

🐴 You can also choose a longer university degree as a Hippolog (a Swedish equine qualification) at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, which again offers different specialisms and entry requirements depending on what interests you:

I hope that answers your question, do ask again! 🦄
