Signs of a poor saddle fit

What are the most common signs that a saddle is sitting badly or does not fit my horse?
Answers from HayHay's experts

Hello! Here are a few signs that the saddle does not fit your horse:

1) The horse moves away from you, puts its ears back or threatens to bite when you tack up or tighten the girth.

2) The horse struggles to turn or does not want to go forward.

3) The horse bucks, especially on landing after a fence.

4) You can see that the saddle sits unevenly on the horse's back. Clues include the numnah being sweatier or more ruffled on one side, or at certain points under the saddle.

5) The horse's coat wears at one or more points under the saddle.

6) The saddle does not stay put and slips, either to the sides, backwards or forwards.

Contact a saddle fitter with a good reputation who ideally carries more than one brand. Which saddle suits you and your horse is highly individual. Good luck!
