My saddle slides forward

My dressage saddle sits well and has been checked by a saddle fitter when it's just resting on the back without a numnah or girth. But when I do the girth up it doesn't sit on the back, there's a gap between the panels and the back, and when I ride it slides forward. I also think it might be partly because his belly is a bit big and pushes it forward a little. Is there a girth that's especially good for this? Right now I have an ordinary leather girth.

Hello!

How good that you brought in a saddle fitter for your horse! 👍

🥕 If I were you, I would contact the same person again and ask them to come back out to you. Fitting a saddle without seeing the horse in movement and under a rider does not feel entirely thorough. Did I understand you correctly that the saddle was only fitted while the horse was standing still?

🥕 When did you buy the saddle, and are you able to return it or exchange it for another? It is not unusual to feel after a few weeks that something is not quite right.

🥕 It may be worth contacting a different saddle fitter. I understand that changing saddle again is expensive, but perhaps your current saddle could be taken in part exchange?

🥕 It is very hard to have any view on how the saddle sits, or to suggest fixes, without seeing the horse. I think you should trust your gut and your sense that the saddle sits badly, and go back to the person who fitted it.

🥕 Sometimes the saddle is wrong from the start, and sometimes the horse changes a great deal in a short space of time.

Good luck, and I hope it sorts itself out! 🦄
