Tack, what happens if it doesn't fit the horse?

What happens if you've got tack that doesn't fit your horse?
Answers from HayHay's experts

Hi!

Tack that does not fit can cause the horse pain or discomfort.

🐴 It can be hard to judge for yourself whether the saddle, bridle and other tack sit as they should, which is why it is worth asking a professional for help.

🐴 At the annual dental check, ask the equine dental technician which type of bit might suit your horse. While the horse is sedated they can both see what the mouth looks like and give you valuable tips.

🐴 Ill-fitting tack can make a horse behave differently because of the pain and discomfort. That is often the first sign we notice that something is wrong. If your horse changes its behaviour, for example by becoming reluctant to go forward, bucking or sulking, it is always worth having the tack checked. A horse does not misbehave without a reason.

I hope that answers your questions! 🦄
