Ball bit with leverage - is it good for sensitive horses?

My horse is sensitive and a bit special. I've been thinking of buying a ball bit for her, but I've noticed there are ones with "shanks". Why?

Hi!

Sensitive horses can be a little tricky, and they are often my favourites too 😍🐴

I would firmly advise against a ball bit, as it does not encourage good contact with the horse's mouth and can create pressure, pain and discomfort, especially when it is also combined with leverage 🦄😊 You build good contact with the horse by working on your basic riding and the horse's rideability. If you want to learn more, you could read about the training scale in Ridhandboken (the Swedish riding manual).

I would also recommend getting help from a good trainer who can support you and the horse in person. Good luck!
