Competition packing list
What should you take with you to a competition? Do you have a packing list?
Answers from HayHay's experts
How lovely that you are off to a competition! Competing with a horse takes a fair bit of preparation, and it is easy to forget something. Here is a basic packing list for you and your horse:
- Horse passport
- Saddle and bridle
- Saddle cloth and any brushing boots or bell boots
- Headcollar and lead rope
- Grooming kit with brushes and a hoof pick
- Plaiting kit
- Towel
- Hay and possibly mash or other feed
- Bucket, haynet and manger
- Stable curtain if you are stabling overnight
- Water for the journey
- Fork and wheelbarrow
- Fly mask and insect spray if needed
- Your own riding kit, including hat and body protector
- Leather-care products and boot polish
- Clothes to suit the weather, including footwear
- Treats or carrots to reward your horse if you wish
Remember that this can vary depending on the competition rules and your horse's particular needs. It is also a good idea to bring a first-aid kit for both you and your horse. Good luck!
