How many competitions a month is right for my horse?

How many competitions is it ok to enter per month? How many classes and so on?
Answers from HayHay's experts

This depends entirely on the horse's age, level of training, which classes or competitions are involved and what they demand of the horse. For a young horse, the big challenge is often all the new impressions, in other words getting used to the environment. For an older horse, it can come down to how much the competition takes out of them physically, but also mentally. You need to pay attention to your horse here: how tired they become, and whether they stay positive, which is a sign that the workload has not been too tough.

It is wise to work in phases: periods where you focus more on training, periods where you can compete more frequently on a well-schooled horse in good condition, and periods of complete rest or active recovery. 💫
