Martingale with breastplate - how do you fit it correctly?

How do you know it is fitted correctly for the horse?💗
Answers from HayHay's experts

Hello!

🐴I am a little curious why you have chosen a martingale with a breastplate? Is it because the saddle slips backwards? If so, it could be a good idea to look at the saddle instead of using a breastplate to hold it in place. A breastplate that holds the saddle back can create quite a lot of tension and put unnecessary load on the horse's forehand.

🐴To judge whether a martingale with breastplate fits well, you need to look at it and feel it while it is on the horse. The breastplate should not be tight or cause rubbing, but it should not be loose either (otherwise it does not do much good 😄).

🐴The martingale straps, with the rings the reins run through, should stop the horse raising its head too high, but they must not be so short that the rein is forced downwards, creating a sort of "v" when you look at the horse from the side as it stands with its head in a neutral position.

I hope you can see why I am questioning the breastplate😍🦄
