How much hay a day does my horse on a track system need?
My horse is fairly strong and in good condition, but I think he's a bit too fat. He lives out on a track system with other horses, so it's hard for us to control how much forage he eats. We're moving to a stable soon, so I'm wondering how much you recommend he eats per day in kg. ❤️

A good way to keep track of condition is to do a body condition score. If you score regularly, you will quickly pick up whether the horse is getting thinner and needs more food, or gaining condition and needs less. You can find out how to body condition score here: https://youtu.be/3O_wwXLaCXI. As for the amount of forage, the horse needs 1 to 1.5 kg dry matter of forage per 100 kg of bodyweight per day. It is also a good idea to work out a ration to make sure the horse is getting all the nutrients it needs.
