My horse hesitates at the fences when we jump at a competition

It is lovely that you are thinking about what might be affecting her hesitation. It is true that the competition environment can be a little different, with music, a commentator, more horses and so on. Most of the time, though, it is us that the horses pick up on, the tension that builds inside us.
