How do I help my horse with recurring loose droppings?

I've got a mare I've had for 2 months. She was on haylage at first, which didn't work at all. She's been on hay for about 3 weeks now and was good for a while, but now she's loose again. Some of her piles are firm but she has 2-3 loose ones a day. She's bright and well otherwise. Has anyone had something similar? What supplements can I give for this?
Answers from HayHay's experts

A horse passing the odd loose pile is no problem in itself as long as its general condition is good, which you say it is. For some horses, getting a little excited is enough to produce a loose pile. You can try a supplement such as feed yeast or lactic acid bacteria, but the scientific evidence that they work is fairly thin.
