How long can you soak hay before it goes off?

Soaking strips hay of some of its vitamins and sometimes some of its sugar. How much of the nutrients are lost varies a great deal between different hays and soaking methods. How long hay can be soaked before unwanted micro-organisms start to grow in it depends on the hygienic quality and the surrounding temperature. An exact answer is therefore hard to give, but expect anything from a few hours up to a day.
