Jumping competition - what do A & A:Clear Round mean?
Hi!
How exciting, your first competition start 👏🏼😃🐎
All the competition rules (the Swedish competition rulebook, Tävlingsreglemente, TR) can be read on the Swedish Equestrian Federation website: https://ridsport.se/tavling/tr---tavlingsreglemente-
The following quotes the Swedish Tävlingsreglemente (TR) for jumping; the rules and class codes are specific to Swedish competition and do not map directly onto British Showjumping. You can read this on page 39 of the TR for jumping:
Methods in Judging A
1. The principle of Judging A is that the number of penalties decides the order of placing.
In both the main round and any jump-offs, a time allowed and a time limit must be stated. Where penalties are equal, the order is decided by one of the following methods: A:Clear Round, A, A:Influence, A:0, A:1a, A:1b, A:2, A:Da Capo, A:Plus, A:Stilla.
1.1. A:Clear Round. In this format, a rosette is awarded to every combination that goes clear at the first attempt. In the event of penalties or elimination at the first attempt, the combination is given the chance to ride the course once more, directly after the first attempt, on payment of a separate entry fee. Judging A:Clear Round may only be used in 0.90 m jumping and below for horses, and in Lätt D (a Swedish pony competition grade, with no direct UK equivalent) and below for ponies.
1.2. A means that riders on equal penalties are placed equal.
I hope that makes it a bit clearer 😃🐴 Really, the main thing is that you have fun, do not stress, remember the course and ride as well as you and your horse can. The judges and officials keep track of your result and placing 🤗
