Pellets or coarse mix?
Hi!
🥕Do you have an analysis of your forage? Send a picture of it if you do. Without knowing what your forage contains, it is not possible to advise on what you could add alongside it.
🥕You will need to add minerals to your forage. The mineral content varies a little depending on where in the country your forage was grown, and those values usually come with an analysis too. The one thing that can be said for certain is that here in Sweden the soil lacks selenium, so it has to be supplemented. Every mineral feed formulated for Sweden contains selenium, though in slightly different amounts. The levels of the other minerals vary, and you can usually find a mineral feed that pairs nicely with the forage you have.
🥕Beyond minerals, your horse can most likely do perfectly well on forage alone, provided it has a good nutritional value. Eating plenty of forage and going without hard feed is good for the horse and kinder on your wallet, since hard feed is expensive.
🥕To sum up, we cannot give you specific advice on whether and what you need to add without knowing what your forage contains. I really do want to be clear, though, that you should not feed hard feed unless the forage is too low in nutrition to meet the horse's needs.
I hope this has helped. With a bit more information about your forage we should certainly be able to offer more advice!
Best wishes, Malin🐴
