Remembering the course

How do you remember the course at a competition?
Answers from HayHay's experts

How lovely that you are going to compete! Remembering the course can be a challenge, but here are a few tips.

What tends to help most people is walking the course several times. Walk exactly the line you plan to ride, and one tip is to bring a notepad or a piece of paper to sketch out the course or jot down notes. You can then look at your sketch and visualise how you are going to ride.

If you find it hard to remember the fences by number, such as fence 1, fence 2 and so on, you can instead memorise the colours, decorations or fence type to help you recall the whole course more easily. Depending on your starting number, you may have time to watch a few riders go before you. That can be a good tactic for memorising too. Good luck!
