What is the difference between salt and electrolytes for horses?

Salt is simply electrolytes in solid form. When a product is sold or marketed as an electrolyte, it usually contains common salt (sodium chloride, NaCl) along with a few other electrolytes such as potassium. What horses lose in sweat, and therefore need to replace, is common salt.
