Soreness between the forelegs - what could be causing it?

My horse is sore between the forelegs when you massage there. The chest too, but not as much. She's not lame and is otherwise happy to be ridden. It's been going on for a few weeks.

Hi!

Well done for noticing that your horse is sore πŸ‘πŸ˜Š

My first thought is whether you have checked the saddle fit recently. Tension builds up easily if the saddle sits wrong and the horse braces against it. A horse's body can change a great deal, and fairly quickly, as it gains or loses muscle and body fat. A younger horse usually changes more than an older one, because they are still growing all over πŸ₯°

It is worth having a saddle fitter go through the tack with you.

🐴 It is also a good idea to let the vet take a look, ideally alongside a good physio. Even if the horse is not lame, sore muscles can point to problems that lead to movement issues further down the line.

Good luck! πŸ¦„
