Supplements without a forage analysis

Are there any supplements that help the horse even if you haven't had a hay analysis done?
Answers from HayHay's experts

Hello!

You always need an analysis of your forage to know whether anything is missing and needs topping up with a supplement.

Horses need a mineral supplement, both at grass and when they are fed hard feed. In Sweden the soil is low in selenium, which is why every mineral feed contains some selenium. The rest of the mineral and trace element content then varies, so that you can find the one that matches the results of your forage analysis.

So, the simple answer to your question is no. You need an analysis of your forage to know what, and whether, you need to top up with a supplement.
