How do you become braver when riding?

Any tips on what to think about and do to feel braver when riding?
Answers from HayHay's experts

Fears are both common and completely natural. More often than not, fear becomes a problem when we grow "afraid of the fear" itself. That happens when thoughts creep in like "what if I get so scared that I do not dare", or when you become frightened of the symptoms of fear, such as a racing heart, shaking and finding it hard to think clearly. Fearing the fear usually feeds the fear.

What tends to help is breaking the grip of fear by challenging yourself, exposing yourself to what frightens you, gradually. You can often start to ease the symptoms of fear with active relaxation, for example, focusing on different parts of the body and really making sure you let them relax. The more times you prove to yourself that you are facing your fear and taking steps towards what you want to be able to do, the less power the fear holds ⭐️
