How can I build my riding confidence back up after I've become scared?
My confidence is poor and I don't know what to do. I've become much more scared of cantering and jumping. For example, I'll lean forward and tense up without being able to control it. Can I get some tips on what to do to improve my confidence?

Has anything in particular happened that has made you scared? Leaning forward and tensing up are classic fear responses from the body, bracing itself and curling up small. They can be very hard to control in the moment, because it is the body's stress system switching those signals on. They are not conscious choices.
What you can do:
- Work out what triggers the fear, which situations set it off
- Expose yourself to them gradually. Breaking it down and taking it in small steps makes it easier to overcome
- Prepare for those situations by doing whatever usually helps you relax beforehand
- Talk to your instructor or riding teacher, and perhaps your parents too, so they can help you work through the fear step by step
The very best of luck!
Remember: most of us who work with horses have to face fear or worry now and then, and that is completely normal. We are dealing with large flight animals 🌷
