Getting your nerve back to canter after a fall

I've started to feel really unsure and scared of cantering. Canter used to be my favourite gait, but ever since I came off at a riding camp a while back I haven't dared :/

It is completely understandable that you feel frightened after coming off. That is entirely natural, and you often need to give it a while and work at teaching your brain again that canter is not dangerous.

Do you feel safe riding in walk and trot? How does your body feel then? Try to carry over how you hold the rein, relax your shoulders and breathe during the moments you feel safe. Challenge yourself a little at a time. Sometimes it helps to have someone lunge you in canter, so you can first practise relaxing your body and feeling safe with someone on the ground. Being able to push the trot on without starting to tense up is a good exercise too.

It will ease, but be kind to yourself and give it a little time 🌸
