How can I reduce my fear when riding?

Hi! I'm quite scared of speed in my riding right now and then I tend to lean forward and bring my shoulders ahead, which of course makes it even worse. Does anyone have tips for getting over that kind of fear? In case it matters, I've been riding at a riding school for a couple of months.

First of all, fear is completely natural. We work with large animals, and it is not at all strange that the body reacts to things like high speed. Most of us in the sport have to face fear now and then.

I can see you have not been riding for long, and my first thought is that this will ease with more time. The more the brain gets used to riding, including at faster speeds, the better it tends to go, and the less space the fear takes up.

One thing you can do is signal to your body that the situation is calm. The easiest way to do this is to focus on a part of the body where you usually carry tension, such as the shoulders, and let it drop and relax. Doing this helps the brain understand that the situation is safe.

Then you also probably need to give it a little time, and it will gradually feel better ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ’ซ Good luck on your riding journey!
