Scared of jumping and cantering

I get scared when I have to jump and canter. I have a share horse and he's a Gotland pony. He's really fast in canter and I'm scared of hurting myself. Like, how do I find the courage to jump? I probably sound silly, but I get scared.

First of all: you are absolutely NOT silly for feeling scared. Fear is completely natural. We are handling large animals, and an accident can happen in a moment.

The most important thing is usually to accept the fear first rather than push it away. We can do what we want to do while the fear is there. You build trust in yourself by gradually doing the things that frighten you. Notice how you ride when you feel safe, ideally the specifics, such as how you hold the reins. Then carry that into the situations where you feel less secure.

The fear will fade gradually, but you often need to give yourself a little time and be kind to yourself. Good luck 🌸💫
