Nerves when trying out a horse

I always get so nervous when I'm about to try out a new pony! I find it so awful when the owners sit and watch, and it feels like my riding gets worse because I'm thinking about completely the wrong thing. Any tips on how to settle this feeling? πŸ˜…

It is not at all strange that this situation makes you nervous. You want to do well, and there is nothing wrong with that. For many people it takes some of the pressure off to tell the owners that you feel a little nervous 😊 "I have been looking forward to this but I feel a bit nervous."

Think about what usually helps you feel secure in the saddle. Is it warming up with halts and transitions? It can help to decide in advance what you want to focus on during the ride. You are there to see whether this is the right horse for you, and that is what matters 😊
