Using liniment

Maybe a daft question but why do you use liniment on a horse? And where do you get it?
Answers from HayHay's experts

It is absolutely not a daft question! Liniment usually aims for either a cooling effect, which constricts the blood vessels, or a warming effect, which boosts the circulation. Some people find this can speed up or improve recovery. Nothing in itself suggests that liniment strengthens joints and tendons. What strengthens these structures is loading of various kinds on varied surfaces. Liniment can help when, for whatever reason, you want to increase or reduce the circulation around the structures. Cooling liniment tends to go on structures such as joints and tendons, to speed recovery after work. Warming liniment is used more often on muscles, frequently alongside or during massage.
